DODGE CITY — The Great Bend Middle School girls seventh-grade basketball teamsd swept past Dodge City Comanche for opening wins.
The GBMS 7th-grade A girls rolled 40-2. Josephine Mazouch and Darcy Feist each scored eight points. Other scorers were Cassie Ellegood (4), Jordyn Harbaugh (4), Kara Feist (4), Jillian Reimer (4), Payge Cain (4) and Kylie McCormick (2).
“This was a good team opener,” said coach Connie Claussen. “The game showed us what we need to work on and what we are doing well.”
GBMS B TEAM — The Great Bend B team pitched a shutout 34-0. DeShawna Bryant scored 14 points. Other scorers were Lea Nokes (6), MacKenzie LaViolette (4), Josephine Mazouch (4), Payge Cain (2), McKayla Smith (2), and Tamra Swinford (2).
“We spread the scoring out with seven players contributing, which makes us hard to defend,” said coach Stacey Magnett. “We need to work more on our defense and running of plays. But for our first game, the girls played well.”
