The Great Bend Middle School 7th-grade girls basketball B team escaped with a hard-fought 26-24 victory over Hays Middle School Indians Monday.
The Panthers turned a 1-point deficit into a 4-point fourth-quarter lead. Hays sliced the lead to 26-24 with four seconds left. The game ended when the Panthers ran out the final seconds.
Yulisa Valdez scored a season high 12 points and Sara Sawyer added six points. Alayna Irwin and Arely Reyes each contributed four points.
Hays Middle School defeated the Great Bend 7th-grade A team 24-18.
Taryn Warren scored eight points followed by Daltrey Kurth (4), Emma Loomis (4), Melyne Fletchall (2) and Allyson Kaiser (2).
The Lady Panthers will begin WAC League tournament play Thursday in Dodge City. The final round wraps up Saturday.
