Bombers to play before Bat Cats Saturday
The Great Bend Bombers 14-and-under baseball team will showcase their talent against Newton at 4 p.m. Saturday at Al Burns Memorial Field.
The Bombers’ game will be played prior to the Great Bend Bat Cats versus Newton Rebels Sunflower Collegiate League baseball game.
Coach Chris Umphres said the Bombers will be excited to compete in a fun atmosphere.
“Playing in front of family and friends is always special at our games. The boys are excited to play in front of the community and the collegiate Bat Cat players,” said Umphres. “The boys will have batting practice on the field prior just like the college players. It’ll be one of those games they remember primarily because of the atmosphere of Al Burns. Hopefully, there will be a huge crowd and we can make this a Bombers/Bat Cat tradition.”
The Bombers (25-8) compete in various tournaments. They’ll compete in Oklahoma and Perfect Game and Hap Dumont state tournaments. The Greater Midwest World Series will be played in July.
Team members are Great Bend's J.J. Grove, Hunter Herrman, Owen Kaiser, Slade Mohr, Peyden Oelger, Jace Schartz, Brody Schnobelen and Carson Umphres and Hoisington's Lance French, Wriken Scobee of Lyons and Chase's Campbell Coleman.
Bombers Baseball is a Great Bend based non-profit youth baseball organization. More than 100 players compete on nine Bomber teams ranging from 7-and-under to 14-and-under.
