Braves survive wild game
HAYS — The Great Bend Braves lost a six-run lead, then trailed by five runs. But they scored 14 runs in the final three innings for a wild 24-19 Legion baseball victory Tuesday over the Hays Eagles.
The Braves rallied for eight runs in the ninth inning in the four-hour affair. Braves Brad Beck and Jade Poe each drove home five runs and Joseph Moeder drove in four runs. Relief pitcher Esten Moore worked two shutout innings to earn the victory.
The Braves drew five walks and two batters were hit by pitches in the ninth inning. Sage Koelsch and Beck delivered RBI singles. Chayse Gruber’s two-run single gave the Braves a 24-19 lead.
The teams combined for 43 runs, 36 walks, 27 hits and 10 errors as they stranded 28 baserunners. The Braves drew 22 walks and five batters were hit by pitches.
The Eagles trailed 9-3, but scored five runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth inning to lead 15-10. Hays Eagle Dalton Dale drove in four runs and Jack Fields drove home three runs.
The Braves (2-5) and Eagles (0-4) compete at the McPherson Tournament Friday.
