LARNED — Jaxx Hillman and Brett Basye drove in runs as the Great Bend Chiefs outlasted Larned’s American Legion baseball team 10-8 in 15 innings Tuesday night at Moffett Stadium.
Brady Michel and Jared Maneth walked in the 15th inning losing pitcher Isiah Perez. Hillman’s single scored Michel and Basye’s single scored Maneth.
The game featured 31 hits and 119 at-bats in the four-hour ballgame.
Larned had the game-winning runner on base in six consecutive innings starting in the ninth inning. The potential game-winning runner was stranded at third base in the ninth, 10th and 12th innings. Winning pitcher Michel and Basye shut out Larned in the last six innings.
The Chiefs have won two of three games against Larned, including a pair of one-run games last week. Great Bend (24-11) competes at the Great Bend Chiefs Classic this weekend.
Maneth’s RBI ninth-inning single scored Michel for 8-6 lead. But Isiah Perez and Tyler Stelter singled and scored ninth-inning runs on Alex Barger’s double to force extra innings off pitcher Brady Michel.
Konner Ireland led the Chiefs with four hits and Maneth delivered three hits. Ireland, Michel and Maneth drove in second-inning runs for a 3-0 lead.
Perez’s double scored Jon Herter and Gage Skelton and Evan Skelton’s double scored Mason Schartz for a 3-3 tie after three innings.
Ireland’s single scored Bryce Lytle in the fourth. Maneth scored on Payton Mauler’s fifth-inning groundout. Kody Lang scored in the sixth. Michel scored in the seventh inning.
Schartz’s fourth-inning single scored Barger. Landon Erway’s sacrifice fly scored Carson Smith in the sixth inning. Schartz’s single scored Erway in the eighth inning.
