HOLCOMB — Two new assistant coaches, five days of practice and a long bus ride were not ideal circumstances, but the Great Bend Middle School volleyball teams started the season to rave reviews. The Great Bend Middle School volleyball teams started the season with a 17-3 record.
The GBMS eighth-grade and GBMS seventh-grade teams swept first place with perfect 5-0 records. The eighth-graders are coached by Michelle Barber.
The seventh-grade team is led by Jessica Nairn.
“The girls came out ready to play and make an impact,” said coach Nairn. “They never let up and kept up the fast pace. It was impressive to watch them overcome deficits and win. I’m looking forward to a great season. Go Lady Panthers!”
Seventh-grade assistant Miranda Drouillard’s B team captured a championship with a 4-1 record.
Eighth-grade assistant coach, Jo Smith’s B team finished 3-2 to place runner-up.
“I had great expectations for the B team, and the girls more than met those expectations,” coach Smith said. “They did a terrific job. I can’t wait to see what they can do the rest of the season.”
