MCPHERSON — Great Bend’s doubles team Matthew Phillips-Malachi Williams finished 10th to highlight the Panthers’ performance at the McPherson Tennis Invitational. Great Bend scored 20 points to place seventh. 

Hays High’s Seth Shorb-Brandon Kennemer defeated Phillips-Williams in the ninth-place match. Phillips-Williams finished with a 2-2 record.

Great Bend’s doubles team Israel Esparza-Josh Hoisington placed 11th with a victory over Hays High’s Eli Zimmerman-Adam King. Esparza-Hoisington finished with a 2-2 record. 

Great Bend’s Hayden Honomichl defeated teammate Luis Zamarripa, 8-2 for 11th place. Honomichl finished with a 2-2 record. Zamarripa finished with a 1-3 record.

McPherson Red’s Jarrod Nowak defeated Derby’s Ethan Kardin, 8-0 for first place in singles. Nowak was 4A state runner-up last year with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 loss to Wichita Collegiate’s Wonjoon Cho.

Newton’s Zeke Thompson-Seth Bontrager defeated Derby’s Kaden Mock-Aaron Larson, 8-5 for first place in doubles.

Derby (51) captured the team title with McPherson Red (44) placing runner-up.
