MACKSVILLE 60, ST. JOHN 12

MACKSVILLE – Macksville’s Hector Gomez rushed for 128 yards and scored three touchdowns to spark the Mustangs past St. John 60-12 in Friday’s Central Prairie League football game. Gomez scored on a 56-yard kickoff return and 6- and 50-yard runs.

Quarterback Ryan Kuckelman completed TD passes to Lance Lickiss and Orion Guevara. The 255-pound Gustavo Portillo scored on a 70-yard interception return.

St. John quarterback Marco Ibarra threw TD passes to Joe Drake and Juan Ibarra.

ELLINWOOD – Ellinwood tailback Logan Panning scored three touchdowns and the Eagles’ defense dominated for a 53-0 non-league football victory over Syracuse. Ellinwood (1-0) had posted an 11-44 record the past six years. Ellinwood coach Brett Stindt is a Republic County and Kansas Wesleyan graduate.

Panning scored on runs of 2, 9 and 64 yards behind the blocking of center Cooper Gunn, guards Jonathan Mason and Campbell Coleman, tackles Nathan Hammeke and Braden Lewis and tight end Mason Moore. Lewis shifted to tackle from tight end.

Drew Heinz, Rylan Wirtz, Bryan Jaske and Cale Batchman scored touchdowns.

LANGDON – Stafford quarterback Dylan Gantz threw for five touchdown passes and scored a rushing touchdown to give first-year coach Mitch Engelken a 50-0 victory over Fairfield. Gantz passed for 224 yards and rushed for 52 yards.

Colson Minks was brilliant with four touchdown passes receiving and 150 yards receiving. Jimi Oleson caught a touchdown pass. Stafford’s Cody Knoche scored a rushing touchdown.

Stafford linebacker Brody Kerschenke had 14 tackles, 11 solo stops. Joshua Hildebrand had 12 tackles. Gantz and Ashton Harter recovered fumbles.

ROZEL – Pawnee Heights scored two touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough in a 34-13 football setback in 6-man football Friday.

Pawnee Heights Tiger Davin Hamby scored on a 34-yard run. Hamby completed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Leighton Munk. Jimmy Gardner added a 1-point conversion run.

LA CROSSE 46, OTIS-BISON 0

LA CROSSE — La Crosse quarterback Caden Morgan threw for three touchdown passes and rushed for two scores and roared past Otis-Bison 46-0 in Friday’s Central Prairie League football game.

Leopards’ placekicker Devyn Braun started the game by recovering his own onside kickoff. Morgan scored on 1- and 2-yard runs. He completed touchdown passes for 12 yards to Braun, 28 yards to Gage Burk and 38 yards to Bryce Conner. Morgan passed for 114 yards and rushed for 56 yards. Burk scored on a 1-yard run and Brodie Schmidt scored on a 25-yard run.

Tyron Steinert had three tackles and six assists. Morgan had 10 assisted tackles.

Otis-Bison’s Jake Hoops completed two passes for 40 yards to Ethan Graff. The Cougars (0-1) lost 10 yards on 24 rushing attempts.

HESSTON –  Hesston’s Tyrone Taylor scored the game-winning touchdown as the Swathers edged Hoisington 21-14 in Friday’s Central Kansas football opener.

Hoisington’s Ian Smith scored on an 11-yard run and quarterback Tony Moore completed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Leyton Haxton. Teron Kraft earned a safety by tackling Karter Gonzalez in the end zone. Moore led the way with eight tackles and two assists.

The Cardinals drove to the Hesston 1-yard line and failed to score and drove deep into Swather territory in the fourth quarter before a costly 5-yard penalty stopped the drive.

Hesston’s Jackson Fry caught two TD passes and 80 yards receiving from Hudson Ferralez, who completed 17 passes for 241 yards.

NESS CITY – A lighting delay didn’t slow Ness City as quarterback Diego Guzman completed two touchdown passes and rushed for a score in a 26-8 Central Prairie League football victory over Central Plains.

Ness City’s Alex Pavlu caught two touchdown passes and Diego Guzman scored on a 1-yard run. Danny Guzman rushed for 98 yards and scored on a 45-yard punt return.

Central Plains Oiler Hunter Klima scored on a 19-yard run. Eli Hurley contributed 15 tackles, four assists and three stops for losses. The Oilers gained 96 yards rushing and 19 yards passing.
