Hoisington captures K-18 title

Hoisington’s K 18 13-15 year old Red baseball team capped off a successful season on July 27, by winning the K 18 state championship in Lucas. The Red team finished the regular season first in their division with a record of 20-4.
They entered the west Kansas regional at Phillipsburg on July 16 and 17, as the number 1 seed. On Saturday they run ruled Ellis 10-0 in 5 innings. Alex Schremmer got the win on the mound. Sunday’s semifinal game saw the Red team beat Norton 8-4 with Zane Prosser getting the win. In the finals Sunday night Hoisington beat host Phillipsburg 14-9. A host of Hoisington pitchers combined for the win with Braxton Donovan pitching 2 innings, Derrick Boxberger pitched 1, Holt Hanzlick pitched 2, and Alex Schremmer finished the last 2 innings on the mound.
The State championship started on July 23, with Hoisington playing Osborne. Hoisington won 12-2 in 5 innings. Zane Prosser pitched a complete game for the win. The semi-finals Sunday saw Hoisington face Norton for the second time in a week. Hoisington won a hard fought game 4-3. Myles Menges led the offense going 3 for 3 and scored the winning run in the 6th inning. In the championship game Hoisington again faced Phillipsburg. Hoisington jumped on them early scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning and 7 in the second. They went on to win 14-1 in only 4 innings with Alex Schremmer throwing a complete game and only giving up 3 hits. Hoisington played great defense through out both tournaments having only 8 errors in the combined 6 games. They also won the sportsmanship award at both tournaments and for second year in a row at the state tournament.
