ELLSWORTH —  Hoisington’s girls won the Larned Tournament and celebrated nine champions at the Ellsworth Wrestling Tournament. None of the Hoisington wrestlers in the same weight division wrestled each other.

Hoisington’s Lyrica Orosco (145) earned the Outstanding Wrestler Award at Ellsworth after upsetting Holcomb’s No. 3 ranked Rian Rodriguez at Larned. 

“Orosco  gave Rodriquez her first loss of the season,’ said Hoisington coach Dan Schmidt. “Lyrica went 3-0 at Ellsworth all by falls to capture first place in the 145-pound weight class. Every girl that participated in both tournaments medaled. There were some very good matchups in both tournaments.”

The Cardinals will wrestle at 2 p.m. Thursday at the the Hoisington Activity Center for a boys and girls round robin tournament.

“I’m very proud of our team,” Schmidt said. “We are headed in the right direction.”
