CONCORDIA 6, LARNED 1

CONCORDIA — The Larned Indians picked off four Concordia baserunners and turned a brilliant double play for a 1-1 tie through four innings.

But there is no defense for a walk. Concordia converted three consecutive walks into a game-deciding five-run rally for a 6-1 regional baseball victory Monday over the Indians. Larned ends with a 10-9 record.

Larned starter Aidan Smyth (4-3) picked off Chas Carlgren, Dyelan Reed and Nick Vignery. Catcher Jack Stelter threw out Hunter Schroeder on an attempted steal. First baseman Logan Erway turned a fifth-inning double play.

But the Panthers made Smyth pay for walks to Jacob Williams, Wyatt Trost and Carlgren. Dyelan Reed drilled a bases-loaded three-run double and Gavin Thomas delivered a two-run double off Smyth after another walk to Schroeder for a 6-1 lead.

Smyth matched Concordia starter Chase Parker (6-2) through 41/2 innings. Stelter doubled home Smyth for a 1-1 tie. Parker prevented a bigger threat when he picked off Tristen Burger after a leadoff error.

Concordia led 1-0 when Carlgren scored on Smyth's throwing error on a pickoff attempt. But Erway saved the day by turning Parker's line drive into a double play.
