Randy Beck's mother warned him they would be days like this.
Great Bend's baseball coach Beck suffered through one of his worst career losses with a 14-0 setback to Hutchinson High Tuesday at Lawson-Biggs Field. The Salthawks (5-13) started the afternoon with a 5-run lead.in a baseball game that started April 6. The Salthawks piled on nine more runs for a run-rule victory with a spectacular ballgame.

The Salthawks (4-14) roared ahead 5-0 against starter Sage Koelsch before lightning stopped play. Kahler Dixon scored on a Myles Thompson sacrifice fly. Bradyn Rodriguez doubled home Kyle Elliott and Carter Booe. Anthony Blackwell singled home Rodriguez and Kanon Krol scored on an error for a 5-0 lead.
Rodriguez drove home three runs with a pair of doubles. Kahler Dixon, Blackwell and Booe each drove home two runs. The Panthers' pitching staff contributed nine walks and six hit-batters in the nightmarish 5-inning affair. The Salthawks made several dazzling defensive plays.
About the only interesting piece of trivia is the Panthers' pitching rotation started with Koe (Sage Koelsch), relieved with Joe (Joseph Moeder) and relieved with Poe (Jade Poe).
The Panthers had one threat when Joseph Moeder and Gavin Haberman walked and Stefan Spray singled in the second inning. But pitcher Nolan Cunningham retired Koelsch and Brad Beck to end the second-inning threat.
