MANHATTAN -- Kansas State fans can watch basketball games on their phones and tablets by downloading the K-State Athletics app via the App Store and Google Play or on their televisions with Roku. Fans located outside the Sunflower State and the Kansas City area can watch games on ESPN3, which is readily available on most streaming devices.
Anyone with an internet connection can watch a replay of Kansas State’s basketball game against UMKC played Tuesday. You don’t need a TV package that includes Fox Sports Kansas City.
The Wildcats provide other free streaming options even though all K-State home games against nonleague opponents are blacked out on ESPN3 across the state and in the Kansas City area -- leaving Fox Sports Kansas City as the only traditional TV option.
“In addition to viewing the games on FSKC, fans can watch the live stream of this production via K-StateHD.TV, which is now a free service,” said Brian Smoller, K-State director of video services. “Fans can also watch the games through K-State Athletics’ mobile app and/or our new Roku app, released last week thanks to our partner Sidearm Sports.”
K-State’s first basketball game of the season, an 82-45 victory over American aired on ESPN3 discovered the game was blacked out.
K-State’s first eight games at Bramlage Coliseum will fall under the school’s third-tier package of TV rights, which also includes one football game per year and several baseball and women’s basketball games. Those are the games that can be viewed on FSKC or through the K-State Athletics app.
The majority of K-State’s conference games will be available on the ESPN family of networks, but two games could be tricky for fans to view at home. A road game against Texas Tech on Jan. 6 will only be available on Fox Sports Southwest, as that game belongs to the Red Raiders’ third-tier TV package. A similar scenario will occur at Texas on Feb. 7. That game will only be available on the Longhorn Network.
K-State expects to announce more set-top-box applications to be announced in the near future.
