Larned doubles loses finals tiebraker
HILLSBORO — Larned’s No. 1 doubles Kathryn Holt/Abby Holt (17-7) lost a tiebreaker 6-4, 6-7 (8-6), (10-3) to Smoky Valley’s Campbell Gaskill/Karee Adam in Monday’s Central Kansas League tennis tournament.
Smoky Valley’s No. 2 singles Logan Spencer and No. 2 doubles Riley Ahlstedt/Kayla Norberg placed first to spark the Vikings (77) to first place over Hesston (70). Hesston’s No. 1 singles Gracie Dawes beat Smoky Valley’s Lena Rauchholz, 7-5, 6-3 for first place. Larned (53) placed third.
Larned’s No. 1 singles Ella McNett (20-6) defeated Hoisington’s Ashlynn George (8-21), 9-1 for third place. Larned’s No. 2 singles Sarah Manry (18-2) defeated Lyons’ Bella Bryant 2-6, 6-1 (10-8) for third place.
Hoisington’s No. 1 doubles Tessa Fry/Mallory Reif (16-13) lost 1-6, 6-1 (10-7) for third place to Hesston’s Kori Kramer/Cassie Albin. Larned’s No. 2 doubles Arianna Hemken/Breanna Hemken (12-6) defeated Hoisington’s Emilee Baze/Cheyenne Martinz, 9-8 (7-5) for fifth place. Baze/Martinz (11-3) played the longest match of the day with a hard-fought 2-6, 6-1, (12-10) quarterfinal loss to Hillsboro’s Katie Rempel/Violet Klein.
