LARNED — Larned Indian pitcher Madison Wood threw a masterful 8-strikeout game in a 3-1 opening Central Kansas League softball victory over Hillsboro. The Trojans won the nightcap 14-11. Larned (5-7, 4-6 CKL) plays Nickerson (1-9 CKL) Friday.
LARNED 3, HILLSBORO 1 (G1) — Larned's Kaydence Kendall doubled home Ivy Hope and Kendall scored on Kenzie Reinert's sixth-inning double for a 3-1 victory. Kendall scored Larned's third-inning run on a Kori Arnold wild pitch.
Indian centerfielder Kenzie Reinert delivered a game-saving play by catching Kirsten Klaver's fly ball and relaying to second baseman Emma Thompson for a seventh-inning double play.
HILLSBORO 14, LARNED 11 (G2) — Larned led 8-6, but Hillsboro scored eight consecutive runs for a 14-8 lead. Faith Cummings drove home four runs. Keitra Edwards drove in three runs. Keeley Brewer and Klaver each drove in two runs.
Larned's Madison Reinert drove in two runs and scored twice. Kenzie Reinert, Hope, Wood and Thompson drove home runs. Hillsboro catcher Cassidy Bernhardt threw out Larned's Hope and Kendall attempting to steal in the seventh inning to preserve the lead.
