Larned's Fischer a state champ, Cardinals' Ball runner-up

HAYS – Larned's No. 3 ranked Luke Fischer (40-3) edged Norton's No. 1 ranked Garrett Urban, 3-2 to capture the 190-pound state wrestling championship. Fischer defeated Council Grove's Ace Monihen (4:58) to reach the championship match.

Larned's No. 3 Carter Atteberry (34-8, 215) lost 3-2 to Oskaloosa's fifth-place Colsen Perry, 3-2, but rallied for four wins to capture a third-place medal with a 3-1 win over Lakin's Dravin Chavira.

Larned scored 48 points to place 10th.

Hoisington's No. 2 Josiah Ball (30-5, 132) nearly joined the family tradition of a state title,  but lost 2-1 to Hoxie's No. 1 ranked Carson Ochs. Ball defeated Phillipsburg's No. 4 Cohen Kaiser 2-0  and edged Haven's No. 3 Gavin Moore 1-0 to earn a championship match.

Three Cardinals lost semifinal showdowns. The Cardinals scored 60 points to place sixth. Team champion Hoxie featured six state champions and scored 260 points.

No. 4 Eastin Redetzke (22-6, 126) rallied to place third with a win over Atchison County's Adler Koontz (4:13) after losing 5-3 to Hoxie's state runner-up Wayne Shepard.

Deryk Yott (41-12, 150) placed fifth with his second win over Hill City's No. 4 Dayton Stephen after losing 5-3 to Atchison County's state runner-up Easton Schletzbaum 5-3.

Teron Kraft (25-10, 157) upset Sabetha's No. 2 Jon Renyer 6-4, but lost to Renyer 6-5 for fifth place.
