Local bowlers compete at state tournament

DERBY — The Bowling Proprietors Association of America International Family Tournament concluded the state finals in Derby with several teams from Great Bend placing.  
Eric Ruiz and his dad John took second place at the state tournament in the parent/teen division, which qualified them for the national finals held in Jupiter, Fla. The national tournament began Thursday and runs through Sunday.
The tournament allows participants to win scholarships totaling $2,900 from the Kansas Bowling Proprietors and $70,000 at the international finals, including $5,000 for first place.
Dakota Conaway and adult partner Donnie Clark took first place in the adult/teen division, which entitled Dakota to a $500 scholarship. Daniel Herrman and his dad Neal finished fourth in the parent/teen division and earned Daniel a $100 scholarship.
