Golden Belt Swim Squad wins third straight swim meet

DODGE CITY — The Golden Belt Swim Squad took first place for third straight time this season, this time at the meet in Dodge City on Saturday.
Golden Belt head coach Steve Beaumont said that this team has had one of the strongest starts in several years.
“Our kids swam real well,” Beaumont said. “The younger kids swam really well early in the day. There were a lot of time improvements.
“This has been the best start to a season in the last four or five years. We hope we can keep everybody healthy and finish the season just as strong.”
Beaumont said that Golden Belt saw a couple new teams at the meet in Dodge City.
“We hadn’t seen Dodge or Spearman, Texas, yet this season,” Beaumont said. “It is always good to see new competition.
“Spearman has won the league meet the last two years. I don’t know if anyone has beaten them in the last two years, but it was a long trip for them. I’m sure they didn’t bring their full team.”
Golden Belt won’t see Spearman again until the Western Kansas Swim Club league meet on July 16, 17 in Garden City.
Rachel Panzer competed in the morning in the 8-and-under division.
Panzer took first place in three events — 25-meter butterfly (26.63 seconds), 25 backstroke (26.59) and 50 freestyle (48.20). She took second place in the 25 freestyle (22.38) and third place in the 25 breaststroke (33.86).
Cal Dunekack took three first-place finishes home from Dodge City in the 8-and-under division, winning the 25 freestyle (19.88), 25 butterfly (28.13) and 25 backstroke (26.26).
Isaac Panzer took first place in five events. He won the 50 freestyle (36.51), 50 butterfly (42.40), 50 backstroke (49.04), 50 breaststroke (53.23) and 100 individual medley (1:44.07).
Emma Cape, competing in the 11- and 12-year-old division, took first place in the 50 freestyle (33.93), 100 freestyle (1:17.74) and the 200 freestyle (2:57.85).
She also took second in the 50 backstroke (43.74) and third in the 50 butterfly (40.38).
Kira Cook took first in the 50 butterfly (38.29), 50 breaststroke (45.09) and the 400 freestyle (6:26.60) in the 11- and 12-year-old division.
She took second place in the 100 freestyle (1:17.78) and third in the 50 freestyle (34.79).
“The morning swimmers did very well,” Beaumont said. “I think after the morning session, we were up by about 100 points. By the end of the meet, we won by about 99 points. So the older kids didn’t gain ground, but they didn’t lose any either.
“That’s what’s so great out the team we have. We are very balanced. We have young kids that swim well and we have older kids that swim well, too.”
Nick Elliott was the only swimmer competing in the 15-and-over division to claim a first-place time, winning the 100 breaststroke (1:29.03).
