Multiple pool records were broken at the swim meet hosted by Golden Belt Swim Squad on Saturday at Kirkman Activity Center on the Barton Community College campus.
McKenna Cape, Amy To, Justin Kuhlman, Isaac Panzer and Kade Cook broke individual records while the girls 10-and-under 200-yard medley, the boys 10-and-under 200 freestyle and the boys 10-and-under 200 medley relay teams each broke records in their events.
Golden Belt finished in first place with 917.5 points, beating the second-place Guymon (Okla.) Swim Club by 467.5.
“I think it was a good first meet for us,” Golden Belt head coach Steve Beaumont said. “The morning session went real well for us. We had, for the first meet, very few disqualifications in our 10-and-under kids. That was nice.
“Overall, it was a success for everybody. Team-wise, we finished in first, which is always nice. For the first meet of the season, it was good.”
Cape broke the eight-and-under 50 freestyle record, which was 44.95 seconds set in 2010 by Olivia Mull. Cape touched in at 44.53 to finish in first place.
“I know she broke the pool record, which is always nice to get your name in the record books,” Beaumont said. “Kudos to her for her efforts. She should have a good summer for us.”
Kuhlman, who had surgery to repair an injured shoulder a year ago, broke the 100 backstroke record in the 15-and-over division. Originally set at 1:02.65 by Kevin Burkey in 2002, Kuhlman won the event with a time of 1:00.87.
“I hope he’s back, “ Beaumont said of Kuhlman’s injury. “I think it’s still an issue with him. He’s still concerned in terms of injuring his shoulder again. Every time he swims a race like that, I think those concerns go deeper in his mind. That’s where we need to be. We’re getting close.
“All of the high school boys swam well, considering they aren’t quite in shape yet. They’ve had a three-month lay off, so they did well.”
Amy To toppled the 100 freestyle record for the eight-and-under division, finishing first at 2:03.11.
With a time of 3:08.10, Isaac Panzer broke the 200 individual medley record in the 12-and-under division.
Kade Cook broke the 15-and-over 500 freestyle record, finishing in a time of 6:06.18.
The 10-and-under girls 200 medley relay — Olivia Mull, Aubrey Snapp, Rachel Panzer and Zoe Jerke — finished first at 3:30.49.
Allen To, Jacob Kennedy, Owen Murphy and Cal Dunekack combined in the 10-and-under 200 freestyle relay for first place in a time of 2:45.24.
The 10-and-under boys 200 medley relay — Zachary Seymour, Kennedy, Dunekack and Murphy — touched in at 3:28.92 for first place.
Golden Belt travels to Leoti on Saturday for a swim meet that begins at 9 a.m.
