Macksville girls win Central Prairie track title

Macksville Mustang Madison Butler (371) charges to the finish line in the 1A state cross country championship at Wamego Country Club.

LACROSSE –  The Macksville girls won the pole vault and 3,200-meter relay as the Mustangs captured the Central Prairie League track championship with 96 points. Macksville won the 3,200-meter relay (10:57.12) with Abi Ibarra, Madison Butler, Kambry Adams and Mayce Russell. Kimberly Arreola (6-6) won the pole vault.

The Mustangs earned valuable runner-up points from Russell, javelin (108-3); Yuli Triana, shot put (30-71/2) and Logan Sanders, high jump (4-4) to capture the title ahead of runner-up Central Plains (81).

The Oilers earned first-place medals by Brynna Hammeke, 200 (26.84), 400 (1:00.34) and high jump (5-3); Lauren Oeser, javelin (109-6) and the 1,600-meter relay (4:25.64) with Hammeke, Jennah Jeffrey, Monica Short and Callie Zink.

Ellinwood scored 75 points and tied LaCrosse for third place. Ellinwood’s past state champion Erin Hammeke dominated the distance events by winning the 800 (2:27.48), 1,600 (5:37.81) and 3,200 (12:57.23).

Ellinwood’s Bella Baker won the discus (114-8) and Mary Dimitt won the shot put (32-1).

CENTRAL PRAIRIE BOYS – Central Prairie League runner-up Macksville (106) won six events. LaCrosse (151) placed first.

Macksville’s double winner Cleven Huggins swept the 110-meter hurdles (15.8) and 300-meter hurdles (41.95) and ran on two winning relays. Ryan Kuckelman won the 400 (53.17) and competed on two winning relays. Jason Cleveland won the pole vault (10-6).

The Mustangs swept the 400-meter relay (44.97) with Camron Torres, Huggins, Cleveland and Kuckelman. They won the 1,600-meter relay (3:39.16) with Kuckelman, Cleveland, Alex Barron and Huggins.

Other boys first-place winners were Otis-Bison’s Jayce Kohls, long jump (21-9) and Kaden Foust, javelin (153-9) and Central Plains Oiler Tyler Holmes, shot put (43-61/2).
