OILER BOYS 46, CENTRE 41

CLAFLIN – The Central Plains capped an unlikely run to a 1A Division 2 state tournament berth with a 46-41 championship victory over Lost Springs-Centre Saturday night. The Oilers (4-18) won one regular season basketball game in the rugged Central Prairie League. The Oilers will play No. 1 seed Hanover at the state tournament at Great bend’s Barton Community College.

“We played really good basketball again,” said Oiler coach Bryce Steiner. “Our big key was the way we boxed out and controlled the rebounding.”

All-league standout Peyton Ryan scored 26 points and converted 10 free throws. Ryan scored 17 first-half points and nine after halftime. Hunter Klima added 12 points.

“Peyton has been really good down the stretch,” Steiner said. “The big difference was we made 12 of 16 free throws and they hit 1 of 6.”

Centre’s Luke Hudson scored 30 points in a brilliant effort.

“Hudson was good. He hit some tough shots,” Steiner said.
