Oilers, Cougars place runner-up
NESS CITY – The Central Plains girls (76) finished runner-up behind Ness City (153) and the Otis-Bison boys (78) were runners-up behind champion La Crosse (109) at the Central Prairie League track meet.
GIRLS DIVISION – Otis-Bison’s Destiny Mitchell was a double winner in the high jump (5-3) and 3,200 meters (12:53.01). The Cougars won the 3,200-meter relay (10:42.95).
Defending 1A state champion Mayce Russell won the javelin (121-0) with Central Plains Oiler Lauren Oeser (119-11) right behind. Oeser won the shot put (35-2).
BOYS DIVISION – Otis-Bison’s Gavin Alloway won the long jump (19-1) and triple jump (40-21/4). Otis-Bison’s Ian Haselhorst won the high jump (6-0).
Macksville’s Aiden Katz was a double winner in the 110-meter hurdles (17.33) and 300-meter hurdles (44.36).
Other first-place finishers were Ellinwood’s Dawson Sunderland, 200 (23.81); St. John’s Quade Smith, 400 (52.3); the Central Plains 400-meter relay (45.85) and the St. John’s 1,600-meter relay (3:42.23).
Ellinwood’s Cason Merritt (10-0) led a 1-2-3 Eagle pole vault with Gabriel Martinez (9-6) placing second and Colton Gibson (9-0) third.
