Oilers’ Ryan unbeaten in singles

WAKEENEY — Central Plains Oiler Emily Ryan improved her record to 20-0 by winning the WaKeeney Invitational Tennis Tournament. Last year’s 3-1A state runner-up Ryan cruised past Victoria’s Brooklyn Kuhn 8-0 in the championship match. Ryan defeated Phillipsburg’s Jacie Roth 8-0 in the semifinals and swept four matches without losing a game.

Phillipsburg scored 37 points to edge Central Plains (31) for first place. Oiler Zoe Potter (13-7) defeated Phillipsburg’s Lizzie Gourdon 8-5 for fifth place.

Hoisington’s doubles teams placed runner-up and fourth place. The Cardinals placed third with 24 points.

Phillipsburg’s Logan Solida-Megan Stapel edged Hoisington’s Emma Mooney-Marta Vara Rodriguez, 8-7 (9-7) in the championship match. Mooney-Rodriguez downed Greeley County’s Brittney Leubbers-Lauren Crotinger 8-2 in the semifinals. Greeley County’s Brittney Luebbers-Lauren Crotinger defeated Hoisington’s Bailee Bachar-Jacquelyn Gonzalez, 8-2 in the third-place match.
