SALINA — Great Bend’s Brantley Baldwin scored a season low 6-over-par 76 (36-40) to place sixth and teammate Cole Streck placed ninth (77, 38-39) at Friday’s Salina South Golf Invitational. Baldwin birdied Nos. 7 and 18. Streck birdied No. 11.
The Panthers fired a season-best 318 to finish fifth. Scott Heilman (79) and Cal Dunekack (86) rounded out the team scoring.
“That was our best team score by 22 shots, and the best team score shot at GBHS in several years,” said Great Bend coach Travis McAtee. “We hope we can use this as a confidence-builder as we finish out the second half of our schedule moving forward.”
Salina South (309) won the team title, one stroke ahead of Emporia (310). Salina South’s Parker Renz shot 4-under-par 66, four shots ahead of runner-up Gentry Scheve (70) at Salina Municipal Golf Course.
“It was a beautiful day to golf with diminishing winds and warm temperatures,” McAtee said. “It was great to play on a nice day after the really tough, windy conditions at Dodge City the day before.”
