DODGE CITY – Seventeen days after getting routed 6-1 by Dodge City, Great Bend’s girls soccer team proved anything is possible.

The Panthers hit the road and upset the Red Demons 2-1 Thursday for their first Western Athletic Conference soccer victory in their final league game. Panthers Yulisa Valdez and Cutlali Sanchez converted first-half goals. Dodge City (3-10, 1-5 WAC) earned a second-half goal by Alisia Solis.

Great Bend’s defense did the rest.

“We played as a team and talked to each other,” said Great Bend coach Margarita Ayala. “We passed the ball and worked together. We stay positive as coaches. We haven’t changed a thing for the girls.”

Great Bend (2-9, 1-7 WAC) plays Hays-Thomas More Prep on Senior Night Monday.
