Indians earn 3A state berth

LARNED – Larned's Easton Fitzpatrick shot 2-over 72 with three birdies to spark the Indians' first-place finish (348) by two strokes over Cimarron (350). The teams qualify for the 3A state golf tournament at Hesston May 23-23. Fitzpatrick finished like a champion with birdies at nos. 15, 16 and 17. Larned's third-place medalist Talon Reynolds (80) birdied Nos. 6 and 15. Larned also counted 17th-place Gryffin Cowell (96) and 23rd-place Mark Hamrick (100).

Panther misses state tourney

WICHITA – Great Bend's Scott Heilman missed qualifying for state golf by one shot with a 16-over-par 88 at the 5A Reflection Ridge regional. Heilman birdied No. 6 and shot 3-over-par 39. But a 4-over par 8 at No. 11 and 5-over-par at No. 16 made him miss the state cut by one stroke.

The Panthers placed seventh (403) by also counting Joseph Linenberger (92), Blake Parsons (108) and Eston Moore (115).

Emporia (324), Valley Center (341) and Maize High (354) captured 5A team berths. Emporia's Brooks Sander (75) earned medalist honors.

Eagles flying high

MARION – Ellinwood medalist Drew Heinz shot 3-over-par 75 to spark the Eagles to first place (357) and a berth in the 2A state golf tournament May 23-24 at Emporia Municipal Golf Course. Heinz defeated Sterling's Zach Surface (75) in a playoff for medalist honors.

The Eagles also counted scored by third place Mason Moore (78), 13th-place Caden Rowan (100) and 17th-place Braden Lewis (104).
