Panthers, Eagles compete at Wichita State

WICHITA – Great Bend Panther Emilia Diaz captured first place (11:58.29) with a career-best time in Thursday’s Wichita State 3,200-meter high school race. Diaz beat Kapaun-Mt. Carmel’s Chiara Fernando (12:06.1) for first place. Panther Addy Nicholson placed fourth (12:30.0).

Panther Kaden Esfeld also posted a career-best time (4:30.25) with a fifth-place finish in the Kansas High School Elite Division. Winfield’s Camilo Tarin placed first (4:26.18).

ELLINWOOD – Ellinwood’s Mary Dimitt won the javelin (105-7) to highlight the Eagles’ effort in the 3-1A girls division.

Erin Hammeke enjoyed a strong performance with a third-place in the 800 (2:30.1), fourth place in the 3,200 (11:56.66) and sixth place in the 1,600 Elite (5:29.26).

Brittany Simpson placed fifth in the 200 meters (28.8).
