Soccer delayed

Liberal led Great Bend 1-0 in Thursday’s Western Athletic soccer opener when lightning stopped play after 19 minutes. The teams waited but were unable to resume play when thunderstorms blew down power poles north of town.

The first half will resume Oct. 18 when the teams play the final 21 minutes for an official game.

The varsity teams will play a full 80-minute game after the first half is completed.

Great Bend will play Wichita Northwest at 11 a.m. Monday at the Wichita South Titan Tournament. The Panthers play Wichita South at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
