WICHITA – Great Bend athletes won four events at the Shocker Pre-state Track Challenge Thursday and Friday at Wichita State University.
Great Bend’s Valarie Luna cleared 5-61/2 in the Elite high jump to break the Panther school record held bySally Boyd (5-6) in 1979.
Madison Regehr captured the Elite 300-meter hurdles (40.24). Eliana Beckham won the 4-6A 800 (2:27.06). The Panthers’ 400-meter shuttle relay (1:11.07) placed first with Paige Sanders, Sadie Spray, Hailey Peterson and Makenzie Premer competing.
The Panthers earned seven runner-up medals. Kaiden Esfeld placed runner-up in the Elite 800 (1:59.37) and the Panther girls placed second in the Elite 1,600-meter relay (4:09.46) with Beckham, Premer, Spray and Kara Feist.
Other runner-up finishers in the 4-6A division were Jordyn Harbaugh, triple jump (33-0); Mathew Moeder, shot put (43-11); Rylie Duvall, discus (106-9); Macy Nachtigal, javelin (119-2); and Cayden Scheuerman, 200 (23.08).
LARNED – Larned’s Jayme Hagerman captured first place in the Elite triple jump (37-73/4), first in the 3-1A 100 meters (12.92) and second in the 3-1A 200 meters (27.29).
PAWNEE HEIGHTS – Returning 1A state champion Alec Carlson of Pawnee Heights earned a triple crown with first-place gold medals in the Elite high jump (6-61/2); Elite Long jump (21-10); and Elite triple jump (44-31/2). Carlson captured the 1A gold medal in the triple jump (46-5) and finished second in the long jump (22-03/4) last year.
