Peyton Ryan headlines Oilers state tennis entries

WICHITA — Central Plains Oiler Peyton Ryan (34-0) leads a trio of entries for Friday’s 3-1A state tennis tournament at Wichita. Kansas City Christian’s Caleb Bartels (29-3) should earn the top seed and Ryan will be seeded second over Wichita Collegaite’s Charlie Gentile (25-4). Ryan beat Gentile 8-6 earlier this seasson.

Ryan owns a 104-2 career record. He lost in the state championship match 6-4, 6-0 to Wichita Collegiate’s Nicholas Grabon last year. Ryan lost 6-1, 6-0 to Rossville state champion Alex Sherer in 2021.

Peyton Ryan is the fifth Ryan to contend for a state tennis championship. Ryan’s sister Janae Ryan teamed with Keeley Hipp for two doubles state title. Michael Ryan and Devin Ryan each placed as state runner-up in doub,es, Emily Ryan was a 3-time state singles runner-up. 

The Oilers also qualified doubles entries Paxton Dody/Nethen Cauthon (21-12) and Peyton Dody/Eli Hurley (20-8).
