HOISINGTON— At any minute, you expected Hoisington’s Chris Wright to tear off his football uniform and display a “S” shirt underneath.

The mild-mannered Wright performed like Superman in Hoisington’s dominating 42-0 football victory over Kingman that clinched the Central Kansas West Division title Friday night.

Wright played like a super hero, sacking Kingman quarterback Logan Adelhardt several times and throwing a perfect block to free Steffan Dolechek on a 28-yard TD for a 35-0 lead.

“Probably one of my sacks was my best play tonight,” Wright said. “I had really good energy tonight and had a good night. That was one of my best games. Our offensive line blocked really good tonight. We’re not the biggest line, but we get the job done.”

Tailback Hunter Hanzlick rushed for 190 yards and converted a 1-yard touchdown. The Cardinals got rolling when speedster Steffan Dolechek busted a 27-yard run on fourth down for a TD and a 7-0 lead.

Zade Sanders, Tyler Specht and Sean Urban added touchdowns and Dolechek converted a second run for another touchdown sprung by Wright’s block.

“I give all the credit to our offensive line, which is playing great,” Dolechek said. “It’s great to see those big openings to run through tonight. That was a lot of fun.”

Hoisington (5-0, 4-0 CKL) clinches the CKL West and Kingman drops to 3-2 overall and 3-2 in CKL play.

The Cardinals rushed for 401 yards on 39 attempts behind a dominating offensive line of center Justin Umphrey, guards Landen Urban and Justin Bradley, tackles Ben Schneider and Chris Wright and tight end Grant Dolechek.

“I was really happy with how hard and how well the guys played tonight. It definitely was a step in the right direction,” said Hoisington coach Zach Baird. “The offensive line did an excellent job. I’m excited because that’s a good Kingman football team we beat.”

Baird said he was pleasantly surprised by how well the Cardinals played.

“If someone would’ve told me, we’d beat Kingman 42-0, I would not have believed them,” Baird said. “We got better as a football team tonight.”

Hoisington’s Rudy Gearhart and Kody Lang intercepted passes and Justin Umphrey recovered a fumble. Landen Urban and Chris Wright took turns punishing Kingman runners.

Little went right for Kingman, which gained 24 yards rushing and 23 yards passing.

Kingman coach Curtis Albin gave all the credit to the Cardinals. Nick Giefer led the Eagles with 22 yards rushing.
“We learned that’s a really good Hoisington football team,” Albin said. “We made some big mistakes early and didn’t tackle. We knew we had our hands full tonight. There were big momentum points and once they got rolling, they never lost it.”

The Cardinals rolled 34, 63, 66 71 and 80 yards on first-half scoring drives for a 35-0 lead. The Cardinals rushed for 309 yards and gained 339 fist-half yards. The second half was played with a running clock with a 35-point deficit.

The Cardinals play at Smoky Valley (2-3) and Kingman plays at Sterling (3-2) next week in non-league games.
