Baseball Panthers swept again

The losing streak by Great Bend’s baseball team reminds one of “Hee-Haw’s” song, “If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all,” sung by country music legends Buck Owens and Roy Clark.
Dodge City took advantage of Great Bend defensive mistakes to steal a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader 3-2 and 3-0 Tuesday over the offensively-challenged Panthers at Lawson-Biggs Field. Dodge City scored the game-winning runs on Great Bend errors in both ballgames.
Great Bend (5-7, 2-4 WAC) has lost seven consecutive games,a streak started with a last-inning loss to Hays-Thomas More Prep. Great Bend plays Thursday at the Hays Diamond Classic against Hays High. Dodge City (10-5, 4-3 WAC) moves into second place in the WAC.

DEMONS 3, PANTHERS 2 — Dodge City scored the tying run on a bases-loaded walk and the winning run on an error to rally for a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
Great Bend starter Bryce Lytle worked out big trouble in the second inning, only yielding one run when Kylan Allen scored after the bases were loaded.
Great Bend’s Cory Burnham scored on fielding error and Brayden Smith scored on an errant pickoff attempt in the third inning for a 2-1 lead.
Lytle’s pinch count was extended into the sixth inning when Derick Blansett drew a bases-loaded walk off reliever Eduardo Bujanda for a 2-2 tie after six innings.
Luke Royle scored the game-winning run after a walk, stolen base and a throwing error. The Red Demons drew six walks in the final two innings.
DEMONS 3, PANTHERS 0 — Great Bend left-hander Logan Perry pitched solidly, yielding no earned runs in a solid five-inning effort.
Dodge City’s Kaden Riekenberg and Luke Royle scored third-inning runs on an infield throwing error for a 2-0 lead. Royle’s two-out RBI single drove home Blansett after a throwing error on an attempted double play allowed him to advance to second base.
Brayden Smith singled twice off Dodge City starter Roman Rodriguez. The Panthers advanced four runners into scoring position.
