Crites rifles Oilers past Trojans in season opener

STAFFORD — In his first game as starting quarterback for the Central Plains High School football team, Braedan Crites completed 12 of 16 passes for 257 yards and five touchdowns.
Crites also rushed for a pair of scores and 76 yards as the Oilers dominated Stafford 72-44 on Friday night in their season opener.
Layne Bieberle caught a pair of TDs, finishing with 65 yards.
Michael Lamatch had a team-leading 75 receiving yards for the Oilers.
Stafford’s Tristin Paulsen rushed for 171 yards and one touchdown.
Trojans quarterback Derek McClure added 134 yards and three scores through the air. He threw one interception.

VICTORIA — Macksville’s ground game never got going as Victoria ran all over the Mustangs.
The Knights only managed two points on a safety in the first quarter, but jumped ahead 30-16 at halftime on their way to a victory.
Victoria’s Bryan Dome rushed for 143 yards and one touchdown.
Mustangs quarterback Tanner Tranbarger returned a kick 75 yards to score, and later completed a 15-yard pass to Simon Miller, Macksville’s only points in the first half.
Tranbarger had a pair of rushing TDs in the second half, a 1-yard dive and a 20-yard scamper, but the Mustangs couldn’t keep up with the Knights.
Victoria’s Lane Kisner had 23 carries for 128 yards, and Sam Ottley completed 8 of 16 passes for 105 yards and four scores.

ELLINWOOD — Thomas More Prep Marian scored all of its points in the first half against Mid-Central Activities Association foe Ellinwood.
The Eagles managed one touchdown in the final quarter, a 12-yard catch-and-run by Tanner Swank.
Swank had a team-leading 43 receiving yards.
Quarterback Caleb Schartz completed 6 of 7 passes for 72 yards.
Colton Churchill rushed for 32 yards in the game.

Larned 37, Ellsworth 25
ELLSWORTH — Quarterback Easton Palmer put Larned on his shoulders, rushing for a team-leading 160 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for three more.
Palmer completed 10 of 18 passes for 182 yards.
Grant Unruh led Larned with 74 receiving yards, and Palmer hit Brayden Smith, Tyler Stelter and Isiah Perez for TDs.
Jeromy Bartz had seven tackles to lead the Indians defensively.
Kaiden Reed had a pair of sacks, and Evan Skelton had an interception.
