DODGE CITY — The 2017 Wild West 6-man Bowl will be played at Memorial Stadium Saturday, Nov. 4. The inaugural Wild West Bowl was held last year at the stadium. Pawnee Heights (7-0) is top seeded and the favorite to return to the 6-man championship football game.
Last year Weskan Coyotes defeated Pawnee Heights Tigers 36-18 in the championship contest. The Wild West Bowl was created to crown the Kansas 6-Man Football State Champion. A consolation game will be played at 2 p.m. with the state championship slated for 4 p.m.
“It was a no-brainer,” said Jay Gifford, Dodge City High School athletics director and member of the Dodge City Sports Commission of bringing the game back. “The game had barely ended when it was decided we wanted to do this again.”
Schools participating in 6-man football include Cheylin, Golden Plains, Natoma, Fowler, Pawnee Heights, Weskan, Western Plains and Wheatland-Grinnell. Fowler dropped to 6-man football this season.
“The schools were happy, the football teams were happy and we were happy with the attendance,” Gifford said. “We were also pleased by the community participation, so we were happy to do it again.”
