For the first 20 minutes of the Central Kansas High School All-Star Game Sunday it was the Rachel Doll show. The Ellinwood High School senior dominated the opening 20 minutes and with that led her team to a 93-87 win at the Barton Gym on the campus Barton Community College.
Doll exploded for 22 first-half point as her National team built a 53-37 led at the intermission. That was enough for Coach Carrie Minton of Great Bend High School and her squad to hold off a rally by the American team and win the fourth annual event.
Doll, the MVP for the National team, connected on four 3-pointers in the opening half as the National team built the big lead. As a team the National squad hit eight treys in the opening 20 minutes of action.
The American team made it a close game with a 50-point second half but the margin was too much to overcome. The American team made up a lot of ground at the free throw line in the second half, knocking down 16-of-22 charity tosses.
The American team also got a big second half out of Morgan Ediger of Cimarron as she buried four treys and scored 14 second-half points.
But in the end it Doll and the National team that came away the winner. Doll led all scorers with 26 points. She was joined in double figures on the National squad by Reagan Unruh of Great Bend, Corie Fischer of Ottawa, and Noelle Dooley of Garden Plain with 13 each.
Breanna McClure of Lyons led the American team with 19 points followed by 18 from Ediger. Brittany Meyer of Andale added 16 and Kelsey Unruh of Hesston 11.
