ELLINWOOD— Nothing beats home cooking and Ellinwood’s boys track and field team savored every bite. For the Eagles, its was a 101 team-point finish that placed the host team at the top during Friday’s eight-team event. Southeast of Saline placed runner up with 97.25 points besting third place Sterling by 13 and a quarter points. St. John-Hudson finished fourth at 83.75.

Ellinwood girls finished in second place, just nine points behind champion Sterling (135.50). Southeast of Saline and Ellsworth rounded out the top four teams with 115 and 75 points respectively.

Destin Baker won the first gold medal for the Eagles with a time of 2:10.59 in the 800 meter run. Morgan Feemster won the 1600 and 3200 meter races at 4:52.79 and 10:48.

In the field, Tate Fisher was the top high jumper at 5.08 ft.

Other medalists in the boys division include Jacob Kasselman who finished third in the 3200 meter run timing in at 11:06.

In the relay events, Ellinwood placed second in the 4x400 and 4x800. Avery Pike, Destin Baker, Fisher and Jordan Duvall won silver in the 4x400 with a time of 3:41.56. Pike and Baker joined Feemster and Jacob Herman for a second place finish in the 4x800 at 9:33.87.

Doug Stout collected two bronze medals in the shot put and javelin with throws of 43.03 and 142.05 ft.

In the girls meet, Ellinwood won two of the three relays. Bailey Baird, Emma Ricker, McKenna Rugan and Cailey Carmen were the top finishers in the 4x400 clocking in at 4:15.19. Carmen then joined Maddie Hayes, Abbie Reichuber and Joanna Strecker to win the 4x800 at 10:38.38.

In long distance running, Reichuber won gold in the 3200 meter race with a time of 13:00.34.

In field events, Hayes recorded a gold medal in the javelin throw at 126.06 ft. Cassie Dimmitt finished in third place in the shot put with a throw of 33.04 ft. while Kylee Thaxton placed third in the javelin at 109.11.

Other medal winners in the girls division include McKenna Rugan who won bronze in the 100 and 200 meter dash with sprints of 13.41 and 27.47 respectively. Bailey Baird placed third in the 400 meter timing in at 1:04.98. Strecker was the third finisher in the 800 meter run at 2:32.30.

In the 1600 meter run, Strecker and Reichuber finished second and third respectively with times of 5:49.14 and 5:49.59. Hayes was runner up in the 3200 at 13:33.27.

In the 4x100 relay, Ricker, Rugan, Baird and Anna Fisher placed second at 53.55.
