Ellinwoods late rally falls short at Goessel

GOESSEL — Ellinwood nearly rallied from a 50-28 deficit against Goessel, only to lose another heartbreaker 50-48 Friday when a 2-point attempt failed with 10:46 left in the 8-man football game. The Eagles scored three touchdowns, but failed on a 2-point attempt to tie.
The Eagles lost a similar close game 22-20 on a safety with 18 seconds left against St. John last week.
Ellinwood (1-5, 0-2 District) featured quarterback Myles Menges, who completed 22 passes for 301 yards with two touchdown. Destin Baker rushed for 52 yards and two touchdowns. Drew Blake gained 29 yards and scored three touchdowns. Peyton Duvall caught seven passes for 91 yards and a score. Tyson Martinez had five catches for 83 yards and a score.
Goessel’s Josh Schmidt gained 316 all-purpose yard. Josh Schmidt completed eight passes for 100 yards with three touchdowns and rushed for 216 yards and two scores. Miguel Guerrero added 86 yards and scored a touchdown. Trevor Beisel had two TD receptions and Jayce Schmidt added a TD reception. Goessel (4-2, 1-1 District) plays Friday at St. John.
