Ellis sweeps Ellinwood baseball
ELLIS —Ellinwood’s baseball team lost its closest game of the season — 5-4 against Ellis to lose Monday’s doubleheader. Ellis won the opener 20-0. Ellinwood (1-17) will be sixth seed in the 2A Salina baseball regional.
Ellinwood pitchers Kyler Doll and Kodie McFarren limited Ellis to three hits. But seven walks, three hit batters and three errors led to three unearned runs. Doll stranded 11 baserunners.

ELLIS 20, ELLINWOOD 0 (G1) — Ellinwood contributed 10 walks, four hit-batters and five errors that led to six unearned runs. Ellinwood’s Tyler Knop and Lane Klepper singled. The Eagles were shut out for the sixth time.
Carter Bollig drove in five runs on a hit-by-pitch, a pair of one-run singles and a two-run single. Brian Carbajal, Konnor Pfeifer, Austin McGuire each drove in two runs.

ELLIS 5, ELLINWOOD 4 (G2) — Ellis scored twice in the first inning on Brian Carbajal’s groundball and Konnor Pfeifer’s bases-loaded walk.
Ellinwood scored four second-inning runs. Ryan Niles walked, Woodson Corbett reached on an error and Luke Wondra was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Todd Hamby’s walked forced home Niles. Kodie McFerren’s two-run single scored Corbett and Wondra. David Hammeke’s sacrifice fly scored Hamby for 4-2 lead.
Carter Bollig’s double scored Tegan Cain in the second inning. Ellinwood’s defense contributed two errors as Austin McGuire and Zach Schiel scored after a walk, an error and hit batter.
