NEWTON — More than 50 percent of the Great Bend High School girls’ swim team had time improvements in Thursday’s meet.
The Lady Panthers finished in second place behind host Newton.
“Newton had 477 points because they have diving,” GBHS head coach Stephanie Maier said. “We had 293 points, and I think Hutchinson had 245.
“I thought we did really well. At this point in the season, we’re looking for time improvements, and over 50 percent of our girls had time improvements.”
Great Bend didn’t have a first-place finish, but Allison Damm claimed second in the 500-yard freestyle and Hannah Hildebrand finished second in the 100 backstroke.
“We didn’t have anyone finish in first place, but we had a couple of second-place finishers,” Maier said. “Those second, third, fourth and fifth places are where we get a lot of our points.”
The Lady Panthers compete at the Western Athletic Conference swim meet on Tuesday in Garden City. The meet begins at 4 p.m.
