McPHERSON — Macy Moyers and Morgan Francis, Great Bend High School girls’ tennis team’s No. 1 doubles duo, remains undefeated this season.
The combo went 4-0 for first place at the McPherson Invitational on Saturday.
“Our No. 1 doubles team is now 28-0 on the season,” GBHS head coach Shannon Schartz said. “They are really happy with that record. They faced Garden City’s doubles team, which qualified for the (Class) 6A state tournament last year. They’ve beaten them four times this year.
“They also beat McPherson’s doubles team that won the 4A state tournament last year. They’ve beaten them twice this year, so they’ve had some really good competition this season.”
Taylor Huslig and Carly Boyd, Great Bend’s second doubles team, placed 17th going 3-1. They lost in the first round, dropping them out of contention for a higher place.
In singles action, Rebecca Dawson placed 19th at 3-2, and Addison Westhoff placed 22nd at 0-4.
“Our singles players didn’t play up to their potential,” Schartz said. “They weren’t serving well. They did get better as the day went on.
“So did our second doubles team. They got better as the day went on, but unfortunately, if you don’t win the first match, you drop quickly.”
Great Bend hosts the Western Athletic Conference tournament on Monday, starting at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park.
