GARDEN CITY — The Great Bend High School girls’ swim team finished in second place at the Garden City meet on Tuesday in a warm-up for the Western Athletic Conference meet.
With four of the five WAC schools in attendance, Garden City won with 384 points with the Lady Panthers right behind with 353.
“It’s a good place to look at what we’ll see at the WAC meet,” GBHS head coach Stephanie Maier said. “We can see where the other team’s are and we can make adjustments to be ready (for the conference meet).”
Dodge City finished in third place with 312 points while Liberal finished fourth with 159.
Maier said that her team did well individually.
“Overall, we did OK,” Maier said. “We had some problems in our relays. We had to scratch our last relay because someone got sick. We had some individuals step up today and really shave some time off of their personal bests.”
Hannah Hildebrand turned in a Class 5A state-qualifying time of 1:07.32 in the 100-yard backstroke, taking first in the event. She also finished first in the 200 individual medley at 2:31.13.
Allison Damm finished in first place in the 200 and 500 freestyle events, touching in at 2:16.08 and 6:13.55 respectively.
Maddie Vesta took third place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:17.22, and Brianna Schartz finished third in the 100 breaststroke, touching in at 1:23.96.
