SALINA — The Great Bend High School varsity tennis team faced the toughest competition it has faced thus far this season on Thursday at the Salina South Invitational.
Great Bend finished third out of eight schools, including Jami McVay and Brianna Schartz placing third in doubles play and Morgan Francis placing fourth in singles.
“The team played really well,” Great Bend head coach Shannon Schartz said. “We had some exceptional wins that will help our seeding at regionals. Morgan Francis beat the No. 1 singles player from Salina Central.
“Stephanie Langer beat the No. 1 singles player from Dodge City. Jami and Brianna beat both of Salina South’s doubles teams. I was very proud of the way everyone played.”
Langer finished in 10th place with a 2-2 record.
Each school had two entries in the singles bracket and two in the doubles bracket for a field of 16.
