The Great Bend High School junior varsity football team improved to 4-2 on the season on Monday night, beating Garden City’s freshman team 20-7.
The Panthers JV scheduled the matchup with the Buffaloes after finding out that Liberal didn’t have enough players to field a junior varsity team.
Trent Uselton got Great Bend started on a 60-yard pass from Shade Wondra, and a 45-yard TD run by Darion Yager made it 14-0 at halftime.
The Buffs scored late in the third quarter after a fumble gave the team a short field to work with, but Uselton reeled in another TD pass from Wondra, this one for nine yards, to make it 20-7.
The Panthers are slated to travel to Hays next Monday, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Liberal 27, Great Bend frosh 6
The one bright spot for the Great Bend freshmen was a 63-yard tear by Thomas Bobbitt in the fourth quarter.
However, Liberal already commanded a 21-0 lead at halftime, and the Panthers were unable to make up the difference.
Great Bend drops to 0-6 on the season.
