EL DORADO — The Great Bend High School swim team finished in fourth place at the El Dorado swim meet on Friday night.
The Panthers finished with 224 points behind Derby (379.5), Newton (290.5) and Winfield (236).
“According to our times, we had our best meet so far this year,” head coach Steve Beaumont said. “We’ve been swimming pretty strong, and we keep improving our times, which is the important thing.”
Great Bend is still not at full strength, with Justin Kuhlman out after a shoulder injury and three others out with illnesses.
“We had four swimmers stay at home for illness or injury reasons,” Beaumont said. “Hopefully, we can get everyone better and get them back in the water.”
Kade Cook turned in a state qualifying time in his third individual event this season, finishing in second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.65 seconds. He also finished in third place in the individual medley with a time of 2:19.09.
Ky Heeke had a strong meet, claiming second place with a time of 1:07.47 in the 100 butterfly and third place in the 100 backstroke, finishing at 1:06.26.
“Ky had a really great meet,” Beaumont said. “He swam the butterfly for the first time and took second place. I think we’ll see him in that event more often if he keeps that up. He did well in the backstroke for us.”
