JUNCTION CITY— The Great Bend High School girls’ cross country team finished in third place while the boys finished in seventh at the Junction City Invitational on Saturday.

“It was a good meet for us,” Panthers head coach Todd Kaiser said. “The girls ran another good race and the boys ran their best race as a team this season.”

The Lady Panthers were led by senior Rubi Torres, who finished in fourth place in a time of 15 minutes, 41 seconds.

Kaitlynn Tuey finished 10 places behind her with a time of 16:13. Morgan Harwood, Hannah Wondra and Ali Heilman also finished as scoring runners for the Lady Panthers.

“The girls just run so good as a team and their times continue to drop,” Kaiser said. “The two teams who beat us are 6A schools.  At this point in the season, I’m looking at where we are placing compared to the other 5A schools in the meet.”

The boys’ team finished one place out of last, beating Salina South by 33 points.

The Panthers were led by Chon Chavez, who crossed the finish line with a time of 17:30 to put him in 13th place.

Kole Stiner was the second Great Bend runner to cross for the boys’ team at 18:02. Stiner finished in 32nd place.

Michael Sullivan, Ky Heeke and Kyle Bussen finished as scoring runners.
