Great Bend drops both ends of back-to-back

LIBERAL— Late season injuries and youth are taking a toll on the Great Bend girls soccer team. Despite a 1-0 lead at the break, Great Bend was unable to hold the momentum over the closing period as the Panthers dropped a 3-1 decision on the road to Liberal in a makeup game Friday. On Thursday, the Panther’s fell to Dodge City at home in a 1-0 final.

In Friday’s match at Liberal, Keely Ireland recorded the lone goal for the Panthers in the first half combined with a strong defensive front to take a 1-0 lead at intermission. Liberal responded with three unanswered goals in the second half, all from Carolina Limon.

Great Bend’s record drops to 2-8-1 on the season and 1-6-1 in WAC play.

The Panthers will have another back-to-back as they host Thomas More Prep on Monday, May 4 before hitting the road to face Wichita Southeast on May 5. Both games are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
