Great Bend High School Bowling results from the WAC Tournament

Both Great Bend Bowling teams concluded their regular season on Thursday as they competed in the WAC Tournament in Garden City. The Lady Panthers dominated the tournament from start to finish. The girls squad captured 17 of the possible 21 points possible as they won the tournament. However, they fell just short of Garden City who was able to hang on to claim the Conference title. This ended the Lady Panthers 4 year run as conference champions. Sophomore Allie Brodrick paced the team as she rolled a 1st place series of 599 which include a high game of 259. Senior Abby Rose finished close behind as she rolled a 2nd place series of 582 that included games of 224 and 215. All six of the Lady Panthers bowled series of 500 or better for the first time in school history. senior Addie Soukup rolled a 527 series, sophomore McKenzy Black had a 520 series, sophomore Kylynn Keeler had a 511 series, and freshman Jordan Vsetecka rolled a 503 series. The final team scores for the day were as follows: Great Bend 3944, Garden City 3867, Dodge City 3452, Liberal 3143,
In boys action it was the Garden City Buffaloes who won the WAC Tournament and the Conference title. The Panther boys earned 16 points and Garden City tallied 14 points on the day. However the Buffaloes outscored the Panthers by 127 points on the day to win the tournament. The final team scores for tournament were as follows: Garden City 4210, Great Bend 4083, Liberal 4080, Dodge City 3660. The bright spot for the boys team came in the final three Bakers games that featured the #1 Buffaloes vs. the #2 Panthers. The Panthers swept all three games from the Buffaloes with scores of 189-180, 184 – 178, and 192 – 164. The Panthers Captain Jeff Mietler finished off his career by striking out in all of these games to seal the wins for his team. The Panthers placed two boys in the top six as individuals for the day. Sophomore Jacob Holden led the squad with 633 series and a 5th place finish and senior Jeff Mietler rolled a 630 series to capture 6th place.
Both Panther teams will next be in action when they host the 5A-1A Regional next Friday Feb. 27, at the Walnut Bowl. The girls will begin at 10:15 a.m. and the boys should start at approximately 12:45 p.m.  Both Panther teams would like to invite everyone out for an exciting day of bowling and to help cheer them onto victory.
