GARDEN CITY — Great Bend’s girls soccer team dropped to 4-5 with a heartbreaking 1-0 overtime loss to Western Athletic Conference co-leader Garden City Thursday.
Garden City’s Emmeline Gomez scored the game-winner eight minutes into overtime with a bouncing 40-foot shot past Panther goalie Ellie Anspaugh. The Buffaloes (5-2-1, 3-0 WAC) won back-to-back 1-0 games over Great Bend.
The Panthers (4-5, 2-4) play again Thursday at Memorial Stadium at 5 p.m. Thursday against Hays-Thomas More Prep. The junior varsity and varsity games have been moved from Cavanaugh Field because of wet grounds. The junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.
