ANDOVER— Morgan Kottas was perfect for the game hitting 3 for 3 including a pair of doubles in a 5-3 loss to Andover in the first round of a Tuesday doubleheader. The Panthers then went on a 12-run tirade in the second game and shutout the Trojans, 12-0 to split the series.
Despite the loss in Tuesday’s first contest, Kottas was productive for the Panthers picking up her two doubles in the second and seventh and sandwiched a single in the fifth for good measure.
Following a scoreless first, Great Bend posted the first run of the day in their second at-bat as Kottas’ double scored Kacee Kasselman. Both teams went dormant over the next two frames before the Trojans reeled in five runs over the fifth and sixth.
Kottas’ final double of the afternoon resulted in two more runs in the top of the seventh but the Andover defense snuffed the rally to claim the 5-3 victory.
In game two, Hunter Middleton collected her third win on the season from the circle allowing only three hits over a six inning shutout. Great Bend totaled 17 hits in the victory.
The Panthers went on 5-0 sprint over the first three innings of play before packing in seven more runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth to coast to the 12-0 win.
Middleton (3-1) started both games for Great Bend to earn the split.
The Panthers improve to 3-1 on the season and will host Liberal on April 14 at the Great Bend Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 4 pm.
