Great Bend swimmers win WAC title

HAYS — Great Bend standout Camryn Dunekack captured the 50 freestyle (25.45) and 100 freestyle (56.1) and anchored the winning 200 free relay and 400 free relay to lead the Panther girls to the Western Athletic Conference swimming meet.
Panther Kira Cook captured the 200 freestyle (2:06.8) for Great Bend’s orther individual first-place finish.
The Panthers scored 400 points to beat Garden City (350) for the WAC championship.
The Panthers posted season-best times while winning the 200 free relay (1:49.75) with Kira Cook, Olivia Mull, Sheridan Beaumont and Dunekack; and the 400 free relay (4:03.56) with Cook, Calista Long, Katherine Snapp and Dunekack competing.
Runner-up finishes were earned by Cook, 500 freestyle (5:54.44); and Long, 100 butterfly (1:11.01),
Dunekack has surpassed state-qualifying stanards in the 50 free (25.42), 100 free (55.67), 100 backstroke (1:06.42) and 100 butterfly (1:04.79). Cook has qualified in the 200 free (2:06.8). Three Panther relays have qualified — 200 medley relay (2:05.32) with Dunekack, Cook, Calista Long and Emma Williams; the 200 free relay (1:49.75) with Cook, Olivia Mull, Sheridan Beaumont and Dunekack, and the 400 free relay (4:03.56) with Cook, Long, Katherine Snapp and Dunekack.
The state meet is scheduled May 19-20 at the Topeka-Capitol Federal Natatorium.
